A recovering work-aholic:) trying to catch up with life and enjoyment. Learning to relax and appreciate life as it comes.

Hey there, thanks for visiting my blog!

My name is Bela. I am a Bulgarian expat woman currently living in Amsterdam with my husband.

This is my personal blog about my new passion for learning Dutch and discovering the dutch way of living while fully experiencing the city of Amsterdam. I found out for myself that I am tired of the old, boring way of learning a foreign language from a textbook.  So I developed for myself a new language strategy:)  called citywordhunt – hunting for words or language inspiration in the city where the language is being spoken. I decided to create this blog because learning should be about sharing – in that way it is ten times more fun.

What did I do before coming to the Netherlands?
I worked as a Learning & Development Director at an international software company with over 800 employees worldwide. I was responsible for their leadership program and soft skills training worldwide. I have a diverse academic background in Political Science, Rhetoric, Human Resources and Sociology. A certified soft skills trainer, passionate about human potential and authentic fulfillment.

Currently
In April, I started my own coaching company here in the Netherlands: Genevva Coaching. Genevva Coaching, a boutique coaching and training provider, supporting organizations and individuals in achieving sustained peak performance.Check it out to learn more!

  1. Hi Bela,

Just to say what a great (and very useful!) blog! I’m currently living here in the Netherlands and also learning some Dutch and I found your blog to be really helpful, so thanks a lot! 🙂

  2. Hello!

My name is Eline and I’m a student of Media, Informatie & Commincation in Amsterdam.
For my thesis I am doing a research on the communication behavior of tourist in Amsterdam. I was wondering if you would like te help me. Would you mind to fill out my survey and send it to your foreign friends?

The link for the survey is:

    • Dear Eline, I do live in Amsterdam, so do you think it will be useful to feel it in? I would love to help you out just want to confirm that I am your target group. Good luck with your thesis!

  3. Dear Bela,

My name is Joyce and I work for ExpatFinder.com.
ExpatFinder.com is a free one stop website for people preparing to move or working and living overseas. We provide a myriad of services for expatriates and we have over 2,000 articles to help and support the people moving around the world and we are now creating an interview section to help the expats with real life experiences!
We quite enjoy your blog about living in Amsterdam, it is very interesting and informative. Would it be possible to interview you to further share some of your tips and feature some of your first hand experience as an Expat and your interview will be published on our Expat Interview section as a guide for our expat readers. The questions are mainly about the day to day lifestyle of an expat. If it would be possible, could you also send some photographs that we can use?
Of course, if you accept, we can add a link to your blog or some of your website.
The questions are enclosed, feel free to respond freely. You can return the doc with your answers if you accept this invitation.
Thanks in advance and do let me know if you prefer other means to conduct this interview and we would be happy to accommodate your terms.

    Best regards,
    Joyce

    • Hello Joyce,

      Kind regards,
      Bela
